Hare and Tortoise round Scotland Autumn 2009

Coming up……………..

As a project funded company the start of the new year has found Licketyspit throwing lots of balls into the air and seeing which ones come back down again! So hopefully we’re lining up lots of exciting projects, meanwhile:

LicketyLeaping in Drumchapel !

In 2008/9 we developed an interactive theatre piece for small groups of up to ten Early Years children. We called it ‘Licketyleap’ because we invited children to ‘leap’ into a story with two actors. LicketyLeap is performed around and inside a multi-purpose set – which can also be worn! - designed by Ali Maclaurin with atmospheric music and sounds from Tim Brinkhurst.

Licketyleap got a wonderful response from children, teaching staff and parents who experienced it. So we are undertaking a preliminary study in nurseries, together with respected academic, Stephanie Knight, to try to evaluate it. We hope we can demonstrate its value as a nurturing and inspiring experience, particularly in relation to children who need an extra boost, so that we can attract funding to enable many more children to experience it. Viv Grahame & I are rehearsing now to take it to nurseries in Drumchapel and East Lothian next month. This is being funded by Glasgow Culture & Sport, EIS & East Lothian Council.

“This greatly exceeded my expectations and had a real impact on the children, improving their self-confidence and promoting imaginative play, covering all aspects of the curriculum.” – nursery teacher, Cranhill.

“I give it one hundred percent!” 4 yr old “Can I go again now?” 3 year old
Hare & Tortoise got a great response from Scottish audiences last Autumn. We’re hoping to tour it again this Autumn and take it further afield. We’re also planning to re-tour Magic Spaghetti. The LicketyTale of Molly Whuppie is out and about too and can sometimes be available for one-off bookings depending on the availability of the team.

We want to thank the children who wrote to us about Hare & Tortoise and sent such fantastic pictures.

We will have some on the website soon.

The Licketyspit audience is fundamental to our continuation as a company in this uncertain climate for the Arts.

Thank you!

We look forward to seeing you soon!
