The Story of

Molly Whuppie

retold by Virginia Radcliffe
Once upon a time there was a little girl called Molly Whuppie. She lived in a house beside the sea with her Mother and her sister Ella.

Molly and Ella had a fine time, running on the beach, picking wild strawberries and fishing for herring in the sea. The sea was green and cold and the sand was white and soft.

They played games like tig, and hide `n' seek. They sang and they danced. They paddled and they swam. They built sandcastles and sand-mermaids and they told each other poems, like this one:

When I was a little boy
I washed my mammy's dishes,
I put my finger in my eye,
And pulled out golden fishes.
